The wait is finally over. After more than seven months, college football is back, and Week 0 provides an underrated game for the first course: The Kansas State Wildcats versus the Iowa State Cyclones.
While for some any college football game would sound appealing, this isn’t just any college football game. For starters, it’s a Big 12 Conference game pitting two teams ranked in the Associated Press’ preseason Top 25 poll. Kansas State is a three-point favorite with bet365 Kansas Sportsbook for a matchup with potential College Football Playoff indications.
But there’s more!
Kansas State vs. Iowa State: Welcome To Farmageddon
Not only are K-State and Iowa State ranked conference foes, they’re also longtime archrivals. Saturday’s game will mark the 109th edition of Farmageddon, which does not have the national reputation of some other rivalries. However, it is – for now – the college football rivalry with the longest streak of years without being interrupted. So it has that going for it, which is nice.
Farmageddon – a Kansas State football rivalry nickname which is a nod to the agricultural roots of both schools – might not have the history of the Kansas-Missouri Border War or the fervent passion of the Bedlam series between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. But those games are no longer annual (KU and Mizzou will play for the first time in 14 years when they meet Sept. 6) Missouri and Oklahoma bolted the Big 12 for the SEC at separate times, ending those traditional annual clashes.
What Farmageddon does offer for Kansas sports betting, besides two ranked teams, is two programs that have a combined three conference championship game appearances in the past five years, with Kansas State winning the Big 12 in 2022. Over the past five seasons, the teams have a combined record of 78-49, including five bowl wins.
This year’s edition of Farmageddon won’t be in The Plains. Instead, it’ll take place in Dublin, Ireland as the Aer Lingus College Football Classic. This marks the fourth straight year a college game has been held on the Emerald Isle. ESPN will broadcast the game, which kicks off at 11 a.m. Central.

Unfortunately, because of the ever-shifting landscape in Division I college athletic conferences, Farmageddon is on the verge of seeing its consecutive seasons played streak end after the 2026 season. The Big 12 did not include Kansas State-Iowa State as a protected rivalry, and that means the two teams are currently not scheduled to face each other in 2027.
The Wildcats and Cyclones first met in 1917 and have played each other every year since.
Conference alignments seem to change on a moment’s notice, so it’s always possible they could find themselves playing each other that season. Or, should fate extend its hand, Iowa State and Kanas State could face each other in the 2027 Big 12 Championship game.
No odds are available at Kansas sportsbook apps for that matchup just yet.
Kansas State’s Big 12, Playoff Chances
Speaking of odds, a win Saturday in Ireland would be huge for the Wildcats. Not just because of the bragging rights associated with Farmageddon, but because they’re considered one of the top teams in the Big 12.
BetMGM Kansas Sportsbook lists K-State fourth on its conference champion futures board as of Aug. 21. But, at +600 odds, the Wildcats are only a smidge longer shots than co-favorites Arizona State, Texas Tech and Utah (all three of them are +550 with the operator). A decisive win over a ranked Cyclones team could propel coach Chris Klieman’s KSU team to favorite status at sportsbooks.
Fanatics Kansas Sportsbook gives Kansas State odds of +340 to make the 12-team College Football Playoff, when the selection committee reveals its bracket in December. That bet would pay out whether the Wildcats win the Big 12 or make it as an at-large team.
