NCAA Baseball Tournament: Can Kansas State Break Through in 2024?

NCAA Baseball Tournament: Can Kansas State Break Through in 2024?
Fact Checked by Thomas Leary

For the sixth time since 2009, the Kansas State Wildcats will play in the NCAA Baseball Tournament with an eye towards reaching Omaha for the first time in program history, beginning with this week’s regional round in Fayetteville.

The 35-22 Wildcats drew the third seed at the regional hosted by the Arkansas Razorbacks, drawing a first-round clash against second seed Louisiana Tech on Friday night before a possible showdown against either the top seeded Razorbacks or No. 4 Southeast Missouri State.

At the moment, oddsmakers from FanDuel Kansas list the Wildcats as a +112 moneyline underdog against the Bulldogs, to go with +500 odds of K-State winning their regional.

Overall, the Wildcats have the third longest odds in the four-team pod, behind Arkansas (-290) and Louisiana Tech (+460), while ranking ahead of the Redhawks at +2200, which begs the question of how K-State has fared in the program’s five previous trips to the Big Dance.

BetKansas.com, home to all things Kansas sports betting, broke down that tale of the tape to show that the Wildcats’ past trips to the tournament have been anything but grand, though there’s nothing saying that history can’t be made this spring in the Little Apple.

Can K-State Break Through in 2024?

Since 2009, the Wildcats have posted a 193-105-1 (.645) record during the years where they’ve made the NCAA Tournament, taking home the program’s first regular season conference title since 1933 in 2013 and making it as an at-large team the other five times.

While K-State has never advanced to the College World Series, the program did emerge from the regional round twice, eventually falling to LSU in the 2009 Super Regional round in two games, while falling to the Oregon State Beavers in three games in 2013.

In total, the Wildcats have gone 6-5 in regional play since 2009, while posting a 1-4 record in total in the Super Regional round of the Big Dance, which means that history is waiting to be made for Big 12 stalwart in 2024.  Stick with BetKanas.com throughout the summer for the best Kansas betting apps.
