Kansas Leads States With Most March Madness Appearances Per School
Fact Checked by Thomas Leary

March Madness Selection Sunday is fast approaching at Kansas sportsbooks with a scheduled date of March 12. This kicks off the annual frenzy for college basketball fanatics, especially in a basketball crazed state such as Kansas.

The state of Kansas has three Division I basketball schools and the state has a long history of competing in the prestigious tournament. After the brackets are set, the tournament begins with the First Four on March 14 and 15, and the tournament begins in earnest on March 16.

With all of the success the Kansas teams have had qualifying for March Madness, BetKansas.com decided to see which states had the most March Madness appearances. With some states having more than 20 eligible schools, BetKansas.com took the number of appearances by a state and divided it by the number of schools to make it equal for states with fewer schools.

Kansas came out as the clear top state for basketball, averaging 32.3 appearances per school. The Kansas Jayhawks, who are +800 at BetMGM Kansas to repeat as national champions, lead the state with 50 appearances, a number that ranks third all time. Kansas State has 31 appearances and Wichita State has 16.

Usual Suspects Have A Chance This March

While Selection Sunday may be stressful for some fans across Kansas betting apps, supporters of the Jayhawks once again will enjoy a relatively stress-free day as their squad is destined to add to its active record of 32 straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

The Jayhawks are more than likely to enter the tournament as one of the four No. 1 seeds and enter as the defending champion after last year's 72-69 title game victory over North Carolina. They are expected to once again make a long run hopefully culminating with a Final Four appearance in Houston.

Kansas State will also see an entry into the tournament with the Wildcats safely projected as a top four seeded squad in the West region. The Wildcats will be making their first appearance in the dance since 2019. They made it to the Elite Eight the year prior in 2018. Kansas State has odds of +3000 to win the overall tournament at DraftKings Kansas Sportsbook, making them a longshot but at +750, a berth in the Final Four is a possibility and would be seen as a great tournament for the program.

The Wichita State Shockers will not be participating in this year's tournament. They had consecutive appearances from 2012-2018 and also were involved in 2021. The Shockers enjoyed a run to the Final Four in 2013 but won’t be able to match that accomplishment this season.

Regardless of how their teams perform, the state of Kansas is primed to once again send two of three eligible teams to March Madness, once again allowing them to add to their sizable lead of states with the most March Madness appearances.
