Kansas sports betting took a notable step back in May, with revenue falling to $12.3 million, a 32.8% decline year-over-year and down from $14.5 million in April. Total handle came in at $168.1 million, nearly all of it through Kansas betting apps, as the market heads into the slower summer stretch without the NBA playoffs and college basketball driving volume.

DraftKings and FanDuel Dominate KS Betting Apps

The online market continues to be where the action is in Kansas, with $166.2 million of the $168.1 million total handle coming through mobile and desktop platforms. DraftKings Kansas led all operators with a $65 million handle and $6 million in revenue, followed by FanDuel at $50.5 million in handle and $3.9 million in revenue. BetMGM posted $12.6 million in handle with $472,200 in revenue, while bet365 Kansas recorded $11.6 million in handle but just $10,251 in revenue, a notably low hold rate for the month.

Kansas Sports Betting Eyes a World Cup Boost This Summer

May's dip reflects a quieter sports calendar more than any market weakness. Kansas sportsbook promos remain competitive across all major operators, and with the FIFA World Cup bringing matches to nearby Kansas City this summer, there's a natural catalyst for a handle bump in the weeks ahead.

The bigger story may come this fall, with the Kansas City's Chiefs playoff chances generating early buzz and the team among the Super Bowl favorites, NFL betting in Kansas could be a major driver heading into the market's fourth year of legal wagering.
