It appears supporting a championship franchise isn’t enough to ward off a restless night of sleep.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ fanbase, which has seen their hometown team win two Super Bowls since 2019, has one of the highest percentages in the NFL of fans that sleep six hours or less on average.
BetKansas.com took a break from covering Kansas sportsbook apps and utilized Statista’s 2022 “Hours of Sleep” survey of NFL fans with 1,020 respondents to find the fanbases who claim to be the most “restless.” It should be noted this is just a sample size of NFL fans who claimed to be a fan of a specific team. The percentage represents how many people who “sleep on average 6 hours or less a night” out of the sample.
Most Restless NFL Fanbases
The Chiefs Super Bowl odds are the best in the NFL at +600, just ahead of Philadelphia.
Chiefs Fans Among NFL’s Most Restless
The Chiefs finished eighth leaguewide, with 9% of the team’s fanbase reporting six hours of sleep or less on a given night. That percentage paled in comparison to other NFL fanbases like Buffalo, the New York Giants, Dallas, Atlanta and Green Bay — who ranked in the top five leaguewide in terms of restlessness.
The Chiefs were the only AFC West fanbase to make the NFL’s top 10, with representatives from the AFC East (Buffalo), NFC East (Giants and Cowboys), NFC South (Atlanta), NFC North (Green Bay and Chicago), AFC North (Pittsburgh), NFC South (Tampa Bay) and the NFC West (Arizona) making the list.
BetMGM Kansas lists the Chiefs as a 5.5-point favorite in their season opener Thursday against Detroit, with a moneyline of -250 (the Lions are +200). The line dropped Tuesday — and Chiefs fans had another reason to be restless — when it was announced tight end Travis Kelce hyper-extended his knee at practice and his status for Thursday is uncertain.
